Asus Pegasus 4S – almost frameless, almost inexpensive smartphone

Asus company presented its novelty, equipped with a fashionable display of ultra-wide format, with proportions of 18:9. It became the model Asus Pegasus 4S, functionally related to the initial-middle class. The device is made in a modern design, with minimal frames around the screen, but it has far from top characteristics.

At the moment it is known that the date of release of the novelty in China on November 9 and the device will go to stores in limited quantities. On the date of the world release, no information is available, as there is no data on the price tag of the novelty. Some sources report that the price of the smartphone is less than $ 350, but no one calls specific figures. But the cost is a key factor, the success of the device on the market depends on it. Usually Asus does not set sky-high price tags, but as will be the case with this device, time will tell.

Appearance and materials Asus Pegasus 4S

The gadget is equipped with a modern IPS display, made in the proportions of 18:9 (2:1), with a diagonal of 5.7 “.With this size, it is closer to the classic models by 5.2-5.3”, because the length of the smartphone is 152 mm , and width – 72 mm. The thickness of the smartphone reaches 8.8 mm, and the mass is 160 grams. These parameters can be considered a “golden mean”: the screen is already large, and in one hand the device is still placed normally.

The front panel of the smartphone stands out in thin frames on the bottom and top of the screen, but the back is not particularly noticeable. This is a classic aluminum panel, with shiny bevels in the places of separation of antenna inserts, cameras in the corner, a fingerprint scanner on its rightful place. The ends are also normal: the microphone, the speaker and the MicroUSB port are on the bottom, the microphone and the 3.5 mm jack are on top, and the buttons for controlling the sound and power are placed on the right side.

Designers and engineers can be praised for using the modern display format, but otherwise the device is not noticeable in appearance. Meizu, Xiaomi and other Chinese companies have long used similar developments in their products, behind the device does not have a unique appearance. However, this does not mean that it is bad, just the design is not unique and not memorable.

Features of Asus Pegasus 4S

In terms of characteristics, the Asus Pegasus 4S also has nothing outstanding except the screen. It is widescreen, large, but has HD resolution 1440х720. This is normal (Apple and in 2017 do not hesitate to put HD in the device for $ 800), but I would like something more. After all, the Chinese have “spoiled us” and FullHD even in public sector is already perceived as something ordinary.

Chipset smartphone – MediaTek MT6750T, a simplified version of Helio P10. Its eight cores operate at frequencies up to 1.5 GHz, and the processing of graphics is handled by the Mali T860 MP2 GPU. Not the freshest chip, and it’s not impressive in terms of energy efficiency, but overall it’s all right. RAM on board 3 or 4 GB, and the drive holds 32 or 64 GB. I would very much like the proposed price tag to concern the older version, since $350 for the younger version is already a bit too much.

The capacity of the battery pleases, it here is 4030 mAh. Of course, because of the old chipset Asus Pegasus 4S is unlikely to get into the top of long-lived smartphones, but it does not need to graze the backs. After all, the same Meizu M5 Note with a similar iron shows a very good autonomy. The presence or absence of fast charge is not reported, so probably there is none.

The main camera of the smartphone is dual, the main module is based on a 16-megapixel matrix, and the auxiliary module has a resolution of 8MP. On the other parameters of the cameras, as well as the nature of their interaction, there is as yet no information. Front mounted a good front-line to 8Mp, so lovers of Selfie can rejoice.

In terms of communication, everything is quite standard for 2017. There is support for all relevant standards, including CDMA and LTE, but there are no frequency data sets. They depend on regions where the device will be officially sold, if there is no European release, then Band 20 should not be expected. There are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, but NFC certainly not.

Not knowing the final price tag, Asus Pegasus 4S can be called a strong budget. He has far not the worst iron and display format, previously used mainly in flagships. At a cost of about $200, he would certainly have found his vast audience, but how it will be in practice – time will tell. Anyway, but on sale quite good devices with similar capabilities, but more energy-efficient hardware, like the same Xiaomi Mi5X (aka Mi A1). It’s not easy to compete with such rivals, and the proposed price tag of $350 will not help it.
