For one of the best mechanical keyboards the Corsair brand. The problems not all mechanical keyboards designed for different uses. Luckily, you can buy a wide selection of Corsair membrane keyboards. The flagship of their range is the Corsair K55 RGB.

PACKING

The keyboards shipped in a cardboard box with color printing of the firm’s company design. The box shows the main characteristics and appearance of the Corsair K55 RGB. In addition, to the keyboard itself, you’ll find a wrist rest and the documentation in the box. You need to download the software directly from the manufacturer’s site.

DESIGN

The keyboard body comprises two types of plastic. The main part has a durable plastic design with a matte coating. There is a small strip on the top of the keyboard made of glossy plastic. Furthermore, the company logos displayed on the unit and it has several additional control buttons. The design of the keyboard will look great in a home and office environment.

The keyboard has an American classic design with some minor changes. There is a long left “Shift” space and a one-story «Enter». Next to the right “Alt” is the function key “Fn” which is used to control the backlight of the keyboard.

Above the numeric keypad, there are buttons for multimedia control – volume control, mute and music control. Located next to the backlight control buttons (three levels of brightness and backlight off) there is the WIN LOCK (blocking individual keys or their combination, you can configure in proprietary software) and the MR Button for programming additional keys.

The auxiliary keypad G1-G6 is located on the left side of the keyboard. All the keys you can customize separately. You can assign almost anything to a key – just pressing any key, a key combination, writing a macro, and so on.

On the back plastic casing, there are rubberized feet. For rising, the keyboard and a comfortable slope there is retractable feet you can use.

The wrist rest is made of plastic and there are no rubber pads. Despite this, the stand is pleasant to the touch, but collects dirt and fingerprints. The wires designed with fabric braiding, as is customary in mechanical keyboards. The length of the wire is 1.8 m.

EASE OF USE

Using the keyboards easy and you can connect it to your computers via the USB port. There is no special software needed as all the functions accessible through special keyboard shortcuts. You can make the setting simpler with the Corsair Utility Engine.

Printing on the keyboard is comfortable easy. The keystroke is smooth and more pleasant compared to conventional budget keyboards. There are no negatives related to the use of the keyboard.

The membrane keyboard is equipped with protection against phantom clicks of several keys. The key stroke is pleasant to use, and most importantly – very quiet.

RGB keyboard backlight allows you to select any color of your choice. The keyboards divided into three zones and you can adjust them individually. Unfortunately, it is not possible to adjust the backlight color for each key separately and only found in Corsair mechanical keyboards.

The backlight can be static, with three levels of brightness, and dynamic – pulsation, wave, color change. For dynamic lighting schemes, you can adjust the speed of the color change and the direction of travel.

To switch backlight modes without the firmware installed, you can use special key combinations. Alternatively, you can choose the backlight in the Corsair Utility Engine.

For greater convenience of gameplay, there is a button for locking the Windows key, and six macro-keys you can assign almost any action – from pressing the keystroke sequence to launching certain programs.

The keycaps no different from any other membrane keyboard – the shape of the key is slightly concave in the center; the body is high and made of ABS plastic. The letters are in different corners of the keycap: Latin – on the upper left, Cyrillic – at the bottom right.

The backlight is readable, and has good engraving and spreading of layouts at different corners of the key case. The entire keyboards made of the same material with the matte finish.

SOFTWARE

The Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) allows you to manage all the Corsair peripherals. Once launched, the CUE automatically detects connected devices. You can change the main color and assign actions to the macro keys using the Corsair K55. There are three parameter sections available: Actions, Highlights, and Speed.

Actions

In this section, the management of the actions assigned to the keys. On any of the additional keys G1-G6, you can assign almost any action – the input of predetermined pieces of text, the execution of macros or the launch of programs.

Backlight

In this section, you can change the color of the keyboard light. You can assign the usual static backlighting in any color or you can choose one of the available dynamic options.

Speed

In this section, you can see the lock settings in game mode. In addition to locking the Win key, you can configure the blocking of ALT + F4, ALT + TAB, SHIFT + TAB combinations.

CONCLUSIONS

Membrane keypads are pleasant to use and offer you advanced features. The Corsair K55 RGB is one of the best membrane keyboards on the market. You get a wide range of options for adjusting the backlighting scheme. There are six additional macro keys allowing you to customize the keyboard to suit your taste and needs. Enjoy a long stroke, clear keystrokes, bright and uniform illumination with division into 3 zones with the Corsair K55 RGB.

This unit is a great gaming keyboard and suitable to use for normal work. The keyboard supports up to 8 simultaneous keystrokes that are perfect for most games, especially since K55 does not limit anti-ghosting to only one zone and applies to all keys.

However, the lack of selection WASD-keys and arrows in a separate color, or some special coating can make this keyboard a bit better to use.
