Review of the Game Razer Phone

The American company Razer has long established itself as one of the best producers of gaming accessories and full-fledged gaming systems. However, the realities of the modern market cause many brands to go beyond their fundamental activities. The transatlantic giant was not an exception, presenting its first gaming smartphone to the public the Razer Phone. Despite the fact that the company began to develop a new segment of the market for itself, it did it in its own style, giving the gadget tremendous gaming capabilities.

Design of the Razer Phone

Although the models marketed as a gaming gadget, its appearance is quite similar to the latest Smartphones. The device has an oblong shape with a high-quality display. There is a camera present with a powerful stereo speaker at the top and bottom. On the back in the upper left corner is the main dual camera with the Razer icon.

The lower ends equipped with a USB-C socket and on the left side is the volume button. On the right side are the power button and a fingerprint scanner. The exterior of the phone comprises aluminum in black. The dimension of the device is 158.5 x 77.7x 8 mm. The Razer is not lightweight and weighs 197 grams.

The Display

The device is equipped with a large screen with a diagonal measurement of 5.72 inches. This is an IGZO LCD screen, and the resolution is 1440×2560 pixels. Razer applied a unique technology known as UltraMotion with a 120 Hz refresh rate. In addition, this technology ensures fast synchronization of the graphics processor and the screen. This eliminates delays and gaps in the production of the image. Thus, the smartphone will give its owner an incredibly smooth picture in both games and normal everyday use. The displays constructed of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. With its help, the screen will withstand physical shocks. For the outstanding color performance, it has a Wide Color Gamut.

Performance

The first noticeable thing on the phone is the CPU as it has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform chip. It is not overclocked, but its power is enough to work with all mobile games. The fact is, even with this chip in we will have to see if it produces a stable 120 fps.

What is more impressive is the RAM. Onboard, the device has 8 GB RAM with LPDDR4 memory. The claimed clock frequency is 1600 MHz. What can we say? 8 Gig of RAM today can suffice even for computers, let alone talking about mobile phones. Most likely, Razer decided to provide a strong reserve for future use.

The physical memory is of high level and has 64 GB free space. Another standout is the gaming phone supports a 10th-grade microSD card. This means you can add external storage up to 2TB. The operating systems, Android 7.1.1 Nougat and in 2018 it will receive the Android Oreo update. The installed shell is the Nova Launcher Prime with built-in Google Assistant.

Multimedia and networking features of the game Razer Phone

The first thing that impressed us here is the presence of a dual main camera. The camera contains a 12 MP module with a wide-angle lens with an aperture of f/1.75. Another standout is the 12 megapixels with an aperture of f/2.6 and supports zoom.

This allows you to take exceptional photos while the dual LED flash provides high-quality photos in poor lighting. However, the rear cameras are good but not enough, but if you are an avid gamer the cameras not needed. The front camera is more modest.

The eight-megapixel sensor has an f/2.0 apertures. In principle, this will allow you to take selfies, but the quality of the image depends on the ambient light and the mobility of the device when shooting.

Every gamer knows that the quality of the sound is what determines the best gaming experience. Razer knows this they equipped the smartphone with forward facing stereo speakers. The speakers have dual amplifiers, which provide a loud and clear sound.

Moreover, these elements support Dolby Atmos technology, which guarantees sound, almost like in a real cinema. Thus, the Racer Phones suitable not only for gamers but great to watch movies on.

There is, however, one important item missing a 3.5mm connector for headphones. Even while the features not present the USB C has a sound adapter supplied by the THX brand. It is equipped with a 24-bit DAC digital audio converter.

By connecting a headphone made to use with this type of connection you will get a professional-grade sound. The playback of media files is superb and plays all popular formats.

The phone has all the latest network capabilities and supports reception and transmission of data from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and Near Field Communication Standard.

Preinstalled Games

The following games preinstalled on the Razer Phone:

  • Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition
  • Lineage 2 Revolution
  • Tekken
  • Arena of Valor
  • Gear Club
  • Titanfall Assault
  • Shadowgun Legends
  • Old School RuneScape
  • World of Tanks Blitz
  • RuneScape

The great thing is these games specifically installed to work with the powerful hardware and you can download additional games via the stable Wi-Fi.

Battery Use of the Razer Von

Compared to gaming laptops the Razer Von has two secret points:

An outstanding battery – the phones equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. The battery provides enough power to play games the whole day. If not used with Internet surfing the device can last longer. Furthermore, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ to fill up the energy reserve to continue playing games.

The other thing is optimization – the gaming applications adjusted to its maximum and do not burden the system and requires less power to launch. This however only applies to the games installed on the phone and not from 3rd –party application.

Final Thoughts

The Razer has a number of advantages:

  • High-quality screen with a stunning refresh rate of 120 Hz
  • Powerful hardware and equipped with a modern processor with loads of RAM and supports a 2 TB card
  • High-quality speakers that produce a dense and loud sound
  • Perfect optimization of many popular games, which became possible thanks to cooperation with manufacturers and publishers
  • Equipped with a powerful battery capable of providing a whole day of continuous play with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+
  • Versatile to use for games, watching movies, listening to music and basic phone use

The main disadvantage is the weight. It may be inconvenient for a certain circle of users to work with the phone. For some users, the lack of a standard headphone jack might be disappointing. The price of the Razer Phone is $699 . Most likely, this device will justify its status, because its technical content is enough to run most modern games with the maximum number of fps. However, one cannot compare the phone to gaming laptops, PCs, and gaming consoles. The graphics and hardware is not too bad, but mobile gaming is still in its beginning stage. If you need a casual gaming phone, the Razer is sure to keep you entertained.
