Review Microsoft Xbox One X – A Powerful Console
About a year ago, Microsoft made a statement in which it promised gamers the most productive console in history, capable of delivering maximum fps even with 4K-resolution. Experienced users reacted in moderation to the news, because Sony has already released a console supporting Ultra Full-HD the PS4 Pro, although in practice 4K is not present. This statement interested many players and finally, the American brand made it available to the public the Microsoft Xbox One X. In this review, we will find out whether this console is the most powerful device in the gaming console category.
The design of the Microsoft Xbox One X
To many the package content is a bit confusing and made up of the following:
- The Microsoft Xbox One X
- A power supply cable
- Xbox Live Gold key to use for up to two weeks
- The Xbox Game Pass key valid for a month
- HDMI 2.0 cable
- One wireless controller
One thing everyone can say thanks for is the useful HDMI cable. On the other hand, we found the one joystick included a minus. The thing is the game controller included is nothing different as it is similar to the ones included with the Xbox One and Xbox One S. Therefore, if you do have any of these gaming joysticks it will work on this model.
The problem is that not everyone might have the previous device and you will need to buy it separately. Another downside is that once you start unpacking the box there is no surprise in the design. The unit looks similar to previous models yet remains stylish.
The exterior is black and on the front is the Xbox logo that lights up while using. On the left is the drive for reading discs. In the lower right corner is the USB 3.0 port. For keeping the system cool, it has holes on the sides and behind the main part, you find the connectors made up as follow:
- Socket for the power cord
- Two USB 3.0 inputs
- Two HDMI ports one with a 1.4b input and one with a 2.0b output
- Infrared port
- Socket for Ethernet cable
- S/PDIF connector
Overall, the Microsoft Xbox One X has an attractive design.
The Technical Hardware
The gaming consoles fitted with an AMD Jaguar Custom processor and represented by two clusters of four cores each. Each one’s clock frequency is 2.3 GHz. This is a powerful processor compared to any other gaming console. This offers the gamer realistic graphics. The console is equipped with a 40 AMD Polaris Custom module with an operating frequency of 1172 MHz.
The structural design of this video accelerator includes the 2560 Shader processor, 160 texture-mapping units, and 32 rasterization units. In general, the declared performance of the graphics processor equals 6 teraflops. Thanks to this feature, the prefix will be able to build a beautiful picture in the full 4K resolution. This allows the players to immerse themselves in a virtual world.
The amount of video memory is 12 gigabytes. The type of memory used is GDDR5. Its operating frequency is 6800 MHz. The bandwidth of the memory in question is 326 GB/s. Thanks to this value you can play games smoothly. The physical memory is completely different and not to our satisfaction.
The console has a 1 TB hard disk. This drive has a rotation speed of 5400 rpm. It would seem that for Microsoft Xbox One X 1 TB – this is a decent figure, but there is one problem. The fact is that today there are no full-fledged exclusive games for this console, optimized for 4K.
The device will launch games for previous versions, which did not adjust for Ultra Full HD. Here we come to the vaguest moment the developers almost every day release patches for Triple-A projects so that they display in 4K. It would seem that everything is super, that’s just weighing such additions under 60 GB.
In the end, we get the following: you install the game itself on 30 GB, download for it a 60-gigabyte addition, and immediately lose 10% of free space. Hence, that on the hard drive can fit a maximum of 10 hit titles. It seems to be a good idea, but there are gamers who want to have a large collection of their favorite gaming applications present.
With the Microsoft Xbox One X, you will have to forget about this luxury. The console supports 8 GB flash memory, but is a low increase. The console has a modern liquid cooling system, centrifugal blower and prevents the hardware from overheating. The great thing is it works quietly.
Multimedia and Network Capabilities
It’s clear that the main multimedia highlight of the Microsoft Xbox One X console is the playback of games and movies in 4K resolution. According to the developer’s, the frame rate at the same time will be stable at 60 fps. The console has support for the HDR10 technology. Thanks to this, the games will increase in contrast between light and dark sections of the location, to see absolutely everything. The developers thought about those who prefer physical media. For them, the console provides an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. This means you can buy CDs of your favorite titles.
The Microsoft Xbox One X supports Dolby Atmos TrueHD 5.1 technology. With its help, the player will get the feeling of a 100% immersion in the virtual world, although for this you will have to purchase an appropriate acoustic system. If you do not want to spend money on such a purchase, it does not matter. The console supports Windows Sonic technology specifically for the headset. It will also give you the effect of full presence on the sports ground, racing track or on the battlefield.
As for networking, everything is standard here. In addition to wired Internet, the console supports connection through:
- Bluetooth 4.0
With a stable Internet connection, you can buy or download games, watch videos on YouTube, chat through Skype, and listen to music.
In principle, the design of the menu on this console will be familiar to fans of the Xbox series. On the main window, you have:
- The homepage with recently opened games
- A store for making game purchases
- A window for fixed applications
- Social menus where communities, achievements and other players displayed
There is nothing different, but we decided to pay attention to the user interface. According to Microsoft, this console has extensive user settings that allow you to customize the console. This is so, but finding the appropriate item is difficult. For this, you need:
- To go to the Home page
- Here you find the communication menu
- Now you need to scroll through the menus to the System item
- The 2nd item found on the top is only the setting
Whether you are an experience of inexperienced user you should find it easily, but the path to it is not 100% convenient.
Compatibility of the Microsoft Xbox One X
High performance is not the only thing that manufacturers of their fans decided to please. The new console plays the titles created:
- For the Xbox One S
- Xbox One
- Xbox 360
- The original Xbox
There are no questions on the first two versions of consoles (this is natural, given the temporary absence of exclusives for the X model), then for the games from the 360 series and the classic, many fans will definitely say thank you. The known fact is this model supports more than 300 games from the Xbox 360. In addition, there are several games available for the classic version of the Xbox. All the supported games are marked as Xbox One X Enhanced.
Initially, the Microsoft Xbox iPhone Xbox game consoles designed for 4K-TVs, and you can connect it to models that produce a Full HD picture. Games on such TVs will be loaded much faster, the gameplay will become smoother the quality of the picture will increase at times. All this is possible thanks to the support of anisotropic filtering, supersampling, and dynamic resolution scaling.
Well, the last good thing is the compatibility with all the accessories on the Xbox One. That is, you can safely use gamepads (as mentioned above), headphones, control panels, and so on. In addition, on a new prefix, you can transfer your Xbox Live profile with all your friends, clubs, and achievements.
- Has a high performance
- Include advanced hardware
- Supports full 4K resolution and has surpassed its competitor the PS4 Pro
- Gamers can enjoy playing applications and movies in Ultra Full HD at a 60 fps frame rate
- Almost complete backward compatible
- Stunning audio and supports multi-channel sound technology
- Quality and quiet cooling system
- The included HDMI-cable is a plus
- Does not include the 2nd gamepad
- No games available specifically for this gaming console
- The hard disc space is small for full-fledged games
- Difficult to find the settings
- Lacks VR support
As you can see, the cost is rather big, and you should consider buying a 4K-TV if you do not have it. Below you can see the video review of this game device.
Summing up, we can say that this game console fully justifies the title of the most powerful game console of our time. If you are interested in buying this model, you can do it at a time convenient for you.
All you need to do is to start saving. However, think carefully before buying, because despite all its advantages, this version of the Xbox is unclear. On the one hand, it is powerful and compatible with the old titles, on the other – it does not have the technology available to compete with other gaming consoles of the future.
