Review: OUKITEL C8 – the most affordable smartphone with a screen of 18:9

Review OUKITEL C8 – the most affordable smartphone with a screen of 18:9

Today on the review pink smartphone. In fact, this model is available in purple, gold, blue and harsh black. This Oukitel C8: very cheap smart and at the start of sales it cost only $59. True, now the price for the top ten has grown, but you can search for cheaper. Find links to sellers in the final part of the review.

We have a usual charging 5V 1A, microUSB cable, a protective bumper made of silicone and a user manual in English. Also on the glass is glued a protective film, which I did not even shoot, because there is no need for it – there is naturally no oleophobic coating on the glass.

Of course, the main thing that attracts attention to Oukitel C8 is the presence of a widescreen screen with the now fashionable aspect ratio of 18: 9. At the same time, the diagonal is not small – 5.5 inches; the screen is elongated, the smartphone has a relatively small size: 146 mm x 70 mm with a thickness of 1 cm.

The case is completely plastic, the rear removable cover has a glossy surface. And to avoid the appearance of scratches, it is advisable to buy a leather case or use a complete bumper.

Under the cover we have a removable battery, two slots for SIM-cards: one on the format nanoSIM, the second microSIM. And a separate slot for memory cards.

In the hand lies cool, all of it is so round, comfortable, but certainly slippery. In general, it does not look shabby, but rather on the contrary – modestly and tastefully.

Naturally, on promotional pre-sale pictures, the Chinese painted it with minimal side frames. But the one who believed in it, just too naive and unfamiliar with the insidious receivers of Chinese marketers. Naturally, there are frames on the sides of the screen and they are standard – their width is 2.5 mm.

There is no LED for event indication, but there is a front flash. And like most smartphones with similar displays, the buttons here are onscreen. In the settings they can be swapped. In games, when watching a video, they are automatically hidden.

The screen resolution in the Oukitel C8 is not standard and very modest for a diagonal of 5.5 inches – 1280 by 640 pixels. Pixelation is not annoying, but if you look closely, you will see the pixels. Covered all this case 2.5D glass. This LTPS matrix gives a relatively warm color reproduction, you can adjust the picture through the MiraVision function. At sharp angles, there will be a noticeable light and non-critical distortion of colors. And the colors themselves are juicy enough and good contrast. In general, the quality of the picture is VERY GOOD for such an ultra budgetary.

Touch for 2 touches. Of course, after more expensive devices do not have enough responsiveness, sometimes you have to duplicate teams – not often, but it happens until you get used to it. And this is one of the compromises that we are going to, buying cheap smartphones. But do not worry, you can live – this is not the worst dualtach of those I’ve seen.

The brightness adjustment range is naturally small – the upper threshold is not bad, and the lower one, as usual, is too high and in the total darkness there is a desire to further reduce the brightness, but nowhere else.

Here is installed Mediatek MT6580 – an immortal ultra-budget chipset, which you know perfectly well – this is the most basic level. There is no hardware support for 4G networks, so the mobile Internet can be used only through 3G. Although there is already a version of Oukitel C8 4G based on MT6737 with LTE support, but there the price is not so interesting.

The RAM is 2 GB and the drive is 16 GB, of which 10.5 GB is free. The smartphone is working, of course, not hurry. But it is not designed for active users. On the other hand, the performance is not depressing – the smartphone does not frankly slow down.

Of course, gamers do nothing here – games with less serious graphics will lag. But to pass the time in some runaway jumps or shooting from a slingshot with birds is quite realistic.

Powered by Oukitel C8 on Android 7 and it’s almost pure Android. Almost, because the interface is slightly changed – redrawn icons, added not stock wallpapers and so-called smart gestures. Russification of the system is good. Updates are provided and I have already been installed. The system checked for viruses – did not find anything. In general, there are no serious remarks.

Sometimes users complain about the outbreak of “ringing” on similar smartphones based on Android 7 and here it too can be observed. The problem is that contacts in your phonebook are not correctly recorded. Remove from symbols of your contacts such symbols as “-“, “*”, “?” And other non-alphanumeric characters and there will be no problems. If you are too lazy to correct the phone book, you can install an external “caller” from Market.

Also do not be surprised that the Youtube application does not allow you to watch videos as 720p. Do not forget that here the screen has 640 points vertically, so Youtube offers a maximum of 480p based on the resolution of the display. If you go to Youtube through the browser and switch to a full-fledged PC version of Youtube, you can activate both HD and FullHD, but there is not much point in that.

The fingerprint scanner here is clearly cheap – he thinks for a long time and mistakes in his work are also not uncommon.
Supports GLONASS here is not hardware, MT6580 is not for these cases. But GPS satellites are determined normally – for half a minute with a cloudy sky, I caught a dozen.
OTG connections are not provided here.
From the sensors AAIDA64 showed an accelerometer, sensors of illumination and approximation. Everything works as it should.

I can not present any claims for connection – the audibility is good and this is important, because in such cheap phones manufacturers often save on the speakers and microphones.
The multimedia speaker is loud – it’s good too. Of course, the frequencies are exceptionally high, but it will.
About sound through the headphones, I have nothing to say – it’s normal. Playing and well …

Cameras, of course, are primitive. The main one based on the 8-megapixel sensor GC8024 with interpolation, i.e. with stretching up to 13 MP. In the room is better for photos, well, and something on the street to remove in the simplest quality possible. Well, or document some kind of fix, announcement on the post, etc. The link to the source archive is below.

Video shooting FullHD with electronic stabilization and without autofocus. The quality of the video, if in short, is weak.

Front camera received sensor GC2385 – 2MP with interpolation up to 5MP. Option for video calls.

The battery, as you already understood, is removable. The capacity is 3000 mAh and there are no questions to the honesty of this capacity. On autonomy against the background of most ultra budgetary, Oukitel C8 looks very decent. Discharge when watching videos online – 11-12% per hour. In standby mode, the charge also does not evaporate – for the night I took 2% and this with an active SIM and the WiFi module on.

Fianl Words

So, back to the price of the smartphone, which was at the time of ordering $59 and based on this I can conclude that the Oukitel C8 is a smart call for the most undemanding users. And even with a price tag of up to $70 the device remains quite relevant. It comes with its tasks, it works stably and there is that very budget balance here. Well, as a bonus, the fashion screen is 18:9. A simple and working pretty smartphone.
